CalESAR Medical Training Requirements

The Training Committee, Medical Committee and Board of Directors have outlined a new protocol for CalESAR Medical Training. Each member will be responsible for completing his/her own medical training as outlined below. Typically, the unit arranges a group medical training event each year for member's convenience. Look for this event on the training calendar.

To reach and maintain Associate status and Trained status, each member must have attended at least the following medical training and renew the certification as it expires:

  • Basic 1st Aid
    • American Red Cross: Standard First Aid courses
    • American Heart Association: Heartsaver First Aid
    • ASHI: Basic 1st Aid for First Aid Providers
  • CPR
    • American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
    • American Heart Association: BLS Healthcare Provider
    • ASHI: CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer

To reach and maintain Certified status, each member must have attended at least the following medical training and renew the certification as it expires:

  • Advanced 1st Aid
    • American Red Cross: Emergency Response
    • American Heart Association: First Responder
    • ASHI: First Responder

These requirements are maintained by the medical director and will be modified as dictated by Cal-EMA.
